Title: VSA Exhibition Tournament pics
Post by: Eric Slyter on May 24, 2011, 10:35:38 pm
Hello all

VSA held its first Exhibition Tournament this past Saturday, which was well attended by a crowd of about 40 people.  We had a great deal of fun and there was much good fencing, camaraderie and chivalry to go along with it.  You can find pics from the event here:

This was Wayne and my first times wearing perf-plate helmets, and I have to say that I have some changes to make to mine for sure...  more, and larger holes, and adjusting it so that it doesn't sit so low on my head.  It was a distraction and inhibited me from doing my best, but we at least all looked good, acquitted ourselves well and I feel no shame in losing bouts to such excellent students.

Wayne vs. Chris =  Chris
Chris vs. Kenton =  Chris

Longsword:
Eric vs. Wayne =  Wayne
Chris vs. Kenton =  Kenton
Wayne vs. Kenton = Kenton

Long Spear:
Eric vs. Wayne = Eric
Chris vs. Kenton = Chris
Chris vs. Eric = Chris

Sword and Buckler:
Wayne vs. Chris =  Chris
Eric vs. Kenton =  Eric
Eric vs. Chris = Chris

Looks like Kenton continues to be a wrecking machine with the longsword! Don't let it go to his head too much. ;)

Cheers!

Well, he's presently humbled by long spear, which is the weapon he's struggling with the most.  He's catching up fast with dagger and sword/buckler though.

No doubt.

It's good to see there was such a diverse mix in the weapons. Next time you just need to add poleaxe and you've got almost the whole shebang!

Again, well done!

Actually, the original intent was to include pollaxe, but we didn't for two reasons.  A)  we hadn't had enough time on the practice floor with it to feel like we could really represent it as it deserved to be represented, and B)  since we were trying to demonstrate this as blossfechten as we safely could, I felt it was too much to say to the audience, "Okay, now imagine us in full suits of armour for this next one!"
