Errata, Revisions, and Further Observations
Regarding In Service of the Duke

An important note concerning the Acknowledgments and Introduction: I failed to cite that, while my dear friend and colleague Jörg Bellinghausen provided me with much of the biographical details on Paulus Kal's life, he in turn had drawn this information from Dr. Welle's monumental study of the wrestling of the Liechtenauer tradition, "und wisse das alle höbischeit kopmt von deme ringen" (1993, ISBN 3-89085-755-8). The relevant text appears on pages 4 and 5 in the Introduction, and is endnoted on page 11. I had re-organized my notes from Mr. Bellinghausen and had misplaced the fact that he had referenced Dr. Welle's work. This was a very careless and stupid error on my part, and I'm heartily ashamed of having unintentionally slighted Dr. Welle in having made it. I wish to acknowledge here his tremendous contribution to our understanding of the life and times of Paulus Kal, as well as our understanding of the importance and place of wrestling during the late middle ages.

Pages 18 & 202: On further reflection, perhaps the seemingly youthful face on the figure receiving the sword from Paulus Kal's hand is the Duke's son, Georg, who, if my dating for the manuscript is correct, would have been approximately 15 oir 16 years old at the time.

Page 117: There is a typographical error wherein the words "then parry it" are erroneously repeated.
